Part of Fortune Surprises
In previous articles, we have discussed the Lunation Cycle, using
this as an entrance into a discussion of the Part of Fortune (Pars
Fortuna.) The basic concept of the Part of Fortune was described,
as well as the significance of its house placement, its sign placement,
and the aspects which it might make with the planets of the horoscope.
In this, the final segment on the Part of Fortune, we will describe
some interesting features of practical applications of the Part of
Fortune.
The Part of Fortune is a sensitive point in the horoscope of personal
importance because it is arrived at by mathematically manipulating
the Sun, the Moon, and the Ascendant. This holds true even for night-time
births. While modern computer-generated horoscopes automatically calculate
the Part of Fortune, it is a good idea to know how it is calculated.
As an example, let us take the horoscope of President Bill Clinton.
He was born August 19, 1946 at 8:51 AM Central Standard Time in Hope,
Arkansas. To calculate Bill Clinton's Part of Fortune, we shall add
his Moon to his Ascendant and subtract his Sun.
His Ascendant is 5 degrees and 31 minutes of Libra. Zodiacally, based
on a 360 degree circle, this is 185 degrees and 31 minutes. His Moon
is 20 degrees and 18 minutes of Taurus. Zodiacally, this is 50 degrees
and 18 minutes. When we add the zodiacal longitude of the Moon to
the Ascendant, the result is 235 degrees and 49 minutes. Now we want
to subtract from this sum the zodiacal longitude of his Sun (26 degrees
Leo exactly) which is 146 degrees. The example now is 235 degrees
49 minutes minus 146 degrees, leaving an answer of 89 degrees and
49 minutes, which is 29 degrees and 49 minutes of Gemini. Bill Clinton's
Part of Fortune is 29 degrees and 49 minutes of Gemini and ... here
is the surprise ... Hillary Clinton's Ascendant is 29 degrees and
40 minutes of Gemini. They were born in different years, in different
cities, but they have a connection that transcends time and space.
Is this coincidence? Metaphysically oriented people will say that
there is no coincidence. Scientifically oriented people will say that
they want more examples. So I went through my files and accumulated
many examples of people who are close and who have Part of Fortune
connections. It is particularly interesting to see the interactions
in a family. For example, in one case, the child's Part of Fortune
is conjunct his Mother's nadir while his Moon is conjunct his Father's
Part of Fortune. The time of birth must be accurate to have an accurate
Part of Fortune. If you have had a best friend for many years, the
chances are very good that you will find a connection involving the
Part of Fortune.
After the recent murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace, much was
written about a certain similarity between his chart and the chart
of his alleged murderer, Andrew Cunanan. They both had Mars at the
same degree. Cunanan's Mars was 18 degrees and 29 minutes of Sagittarius;
Versace's Mars was 18 degrees and 36 minutes of Sagittarius. A chart
drawn for 8:40 AM, the presumed time of the murder, on July 15, 1997
in Miami Beach, Florida shows that the transiting Part of Fortune
was at 18 degrees and 36 minutes of Sagittarius, the exact (to the
minute!) placement of Gianni Versace's natal Mars, and only seven
minutes of arc from Andrew Cunanan's natal Mars. This apparent coincidence
merits further study.
Take a look at the Part of Fortune in each chart in your file. In
the case of relatives or friends or business associates, I think that
you will be surprised to find direct associations and, possibly, a
new tool to use in Synastry. You will gain added respect for the Part
of Fortune and the information that it reveals.
